An undergraduate out-of-state student registers for 9 credits and is eligible to apply for the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Out-of-state tuition:
$4,491 + $117 (fees) = $4,608

VA pays UMUC:
$4,363.74 ($471.86 x 9 + $117 in fees)

The unmet charges are $244.26

UMUC will contribute half of the unmet charges or $122.13

The VA will contribute the remaining half of the unmet charges or $122.13

The student has $492.87 remaining in the $615 fund to use in future semesters during the academic year.

UMUC’s $615 contribution and the matching amount from the Department of Veterans Affairs will fund the unmet charges of an undergraduate student’s out-of-state tuition and fee charges for up to 6 credits in an academic year.

Example:

A graduate out-of-state student registers for 6 credits in standard graduate courses and is eligible to apply for the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Out-of-state tuition:
$3,954 + $78 (fees) = $4,032

VA pays UMUC:
$2,909.16 ($471.86 x 6 + $78 in fees)

The unmet charges are $1,122.84

UMUC will contribute half of the unmet charges or $561.42

The VA will contribute the remaining half of the unmet charges or $561.42

The student has exhausted the Yellow Ribbon funds for the academic year.

The graduate student in this example could choose to apply the Yellow Ribbon Program to 3 credits during one semester and save the remaining 3 credits for the next semester.

Students will be contacted by Veteran and Disabled Student Affairs to make a choice.

Example:

A graduate out-of-state student registers for a 6 credit MBA course

Their tuition is $4,164

VA pays UMUC:
$2,831.16 ($471.86 x 6)

The unmet charges are $1,332.84

UMUC will contribute $615

The VA will contribute $615

The student is responsible for $102.84 in unmet charges.

Graduate students in the MBA, Executive MBA, DM or Certificate CIO programs will exhaust eligibility for the Yellow Ribbon Program in one semester.
